• In 2018, Musk's mini-submarine was dismissed considering it a 'PR Stunt' by many including the diver who saved the 12 boys from the cave in Thailand, Elon's another tweet landed him in a controversy. He called the British Diver a "pedo guy" in his tweet. Tesla's shares fell 4% after the public found his behavior erratic. Thereafter Elon was asked to apologize by the Tesla investors. The diver filed a legal lawsuit against Musk demanding $75,000 in damages.
• Musk considers Artificial Intelligence as the most dangerous threat to the human race. His warnings for Artificial Intelligence was entitled as 'Irresponsible' by Mark Zuckerberg. To which Elon stated Zuckerberg has a very limited understanding of 'AI'.
• In September 2018, Elon was accused with security fraud charges by the Securities and Exchange Commission. However, the board of Directors of Tesla stated that they believe in the work ethics of Musk and added, “fully confident in Elon, his integrity, and his leadership of the company.” After the Directors tried to make a settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Elon gave an ultimatum to Tesla that he would quit as the CEO of Tesla if any settlement was made. The case is yet to be resolved.
• In July 2022, he pulled out of $44bn bid to buy Twitter, alleging multiple breaches of the agreement. The announcement came after a series of twists after he decided to buy the social media platform in April 2022. According to Musk, the decision came after Twitter failed to provide enough information on the number of spam and fake accounts. Later, in a statement, Twiter said that it had planned to pursue legal action to enforce the agreement. Twitter chairman Bret Taylor tweeted, "The Twitter Board is committed to closing the transaction on the price and terms agreed upon with Mr. Musk." [4] BBC On 12 July 2022, Twitter Inc sued Elon Musk for violating the $44 billion deal to buy the social media platform and asked a Delaware court to order him to complete the merger at the agreed $54.20 per Twitter share.
• On 27 October 2022, Elon Musk fired Twitter's Chief Executive Parag Agrawal, Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, General Counsel Sean Edgett, and Legal Affairs and Policy Chief Vijaya Gadde after Musk officially became the owner of Twitter. On 1 November 2024, a California district court judge allowed the terminated employees to sue Elon Musk for cheating them of their severance by not allowing them to resign. Thereafter, a formal lawsuit was filed by Parag, Ned, Vijaya, and Sean Edgett.
• During a tech event in the US in October 2024, Elon Musk claimed that his space agency, SpaceX, was "forced" by the US government to conduct an environmental test. As part of this test, the government asked SpaceX to assess the effects of a rocket's sonic boom sound on a seal by placing a headphone on it. He said,
"SpaceX was forced by the government to kidnap seals, put earphones on them and play sonic boom sounds to see if they seemed upset."
• In February 2025, Elon Musk found himself in controversy after an influencer named Ashley St. Clair alleged that her newborn son was his. She also accused him of neglecting both her and their child. It was reported that she later deleted her tweets regarding the matter. Later, a well-known social activist named Milo took to X and claimed that she had been working on "blaming" Elon for the last five years.
Later, Elon released a statement in which he claimed that he had paid Ashley $2.5 million in child support. However, Ashley denied receiving any money from him and called him a "petulant man-child."
• In June 2025, a feud between Donald Trump and Elon Musk arose when the latter resigned from his post in the Trump-led US government and criticised Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," which included a $4 trillion debt ceiling hike. Musk criticized the bill as it aimed at increasing the government spending, and in retaliation, Trump called Elon "crazy" for his losing his profits in Tesla. It further escalated when, on 5 June 2025, Trump threatened Elon with cancel government contracts with all of Musk’s companies. In response, Elon took to Twitter (now X) and claimed Trump's closeness with the minor sexual assault accused Jeffrey Epstein as well as Trump's name being listed in the Epstein files, which reportedly has been blacklisted from release as it contains several prominent American businessmen and politicans' names.
On 11 June 2025, Elon again took to X and expressed that he regretted posting against Trump and that he "went too far."
