Govinda Ahuja, popularly known as Govinda, was born on 21 December 1963 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He is an Indian film actor, comedian, dancer, and former politician who ruled Bollywood in the 1990s. Known for his impeccable comic timing and energetic dance moves, Govinda has acted in over 165 Hindi films. Fondly called “Chi Chi,” he established himself as one of the most versatile entertainers in Indian cinema. He entered politics in the early 2000s, representing the Indian National Congress as a Member of Parliament. Govinda remains a celebrated figure in Indian popular culture.
Career Life
Govinda started his Bollywood career with Ilzaam (1986), which was a success. Throughout the late 80s and 90s, he became one of the most sought-after actors, starring in hits like Shola Aur Shabnam, Aankhen, Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Raja Babu, and Dulhe Raja. His pairing with directors like David Dhawan produced numerous blockbusters, making him the “King of Comedy.” Govinda was known for his unique dance style and comic timing, which earned him immense fan following. In 2004, he joined politics and became an MP, later returning to films with projects like Partner (2007).
Personal Life
Govinda was born into a Punjabi family with strong ties to the film industry. His father, Arun Kumar Ahuja, was an actor, and his mother, Nirmala Devi, was a classical singer and actress. He is married to Sunita Ahuja, and the couple has two children, Tina Ahuja (actress) and Yashvardhan Ahuja. Despite facing ups and downs in his career, Govinda is admired for his resilience and charm. He maintains close ties with his extended family, including his nephew Krushna Abhishek, also an actor and comedian. Known for his humility and generosity, Govinda is loved across generations.
