Collins Obinna Chibueze (born May 9, 1995), known professionally as Shaboozey, is a genre-blending American musician raised in Woodbridge, Virginia. Son of Nigerian immigrants, he was exposed early to country music, Americana, hip-hop, and his father’s love of Western culture. His stage name came from a mispronunciation of his last name by a high school football coach. Shaboozey released his debut studio album Lady Wrangler in 2018, and continued exploring his musical identity. In his third album, Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going (2024), he achieved mainstream crossover success, most notably with his chart-topping single “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”.
Career Life
Shaboozey began releasing music in 2014 with the single “Jeff Gordon.” He founded a production company, V Picture Films, early on, aiming not just to perform but to produce and direct. He followed with Cowboys Live Forever, Outlaws Never Die in 2022. The breakout came in 2024: his third album Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going and the single “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which spent many weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 charts. He also featured on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter with two tracks.
Personal Life
Shaboozey was born to Nigerian parents and raised in Woodbridge, VA. People.com His father, who studied in Texas, held on to a love of country music and Western style, influencing Shaboozey’s musical taste. He spent part of his schooling at a boarding school in Nigeria during junior high. His name means “God is King” in Igbo; the stage name “Shaboozey” stems from people mispronouncing his surname. Today he is unmarried; he keeps much of his personal relationships private, invests in entrepreneurial work, creative content, and continues to draw on his cultural heritage.
